Monday 8 February 2010

This week we'd like to highlight a website whose aim is to get you to leave it. Weekly Geeks poses open-ended questions of a bookish nature on Saturdays and anyone is welcome to join in and post their thoughts and discoveries in the comments, which are then highlighted in a new post every subsequent Friday.

One recent theme (the third of 2010) looked at Haiti, in light of recent events. Participants were asked to write about the country with a positive slant, in order to remind people there's more to Haiti (and Port-au-Prince) than the devastation and homelessness wrought by the earthquake.

Weekly Geeks is, therefore, an insight into readers' habits around the world. By asking interesting questions about these habits, as well as how readers combine their love of books and the Internet, and even soliciting book recommendations, it shows clearly how the hobby of reading certainly hasn't faded in popularity with the advent of the Internet - in fact, readers have integrated some of the new technologies to better organise their reading lives.

If you've got a website or podcast you'd like to submit for Site of the Week consideration, send us an email (make sure the recipient is Website enquiries).
