Rainy City Stories is one of the most entertaining applications of Google Maps that we've seen in a while. Click on a cloud and you can read a little story or poem set at that location. For example, the story 'Machine' is set in Machester Airport and it's something almost all of us are now familiar with.

This looks like a fabulous way to get to know a new city through the eyes of its inhabitants. It's not touristy and it gives you snapshots of what Manchester is really like. It might be tagged 'A writer's map of Manchester', but we think it serves as a great guide to the culture of the city, too.

Valentine's Day bonus: To get yourself 'in the mood', why not check out some new and established Mancunian writers on Rainy City Stories's 2009 love stories?
