This review is part of the Literature World Tour.

Once again, BookCrossers around the world have stepped up and suggested an amazing list of books for the January 2010 leg of the Literature World Tour.

A Land of Two Halves by Joe Bennett
Bennett doesn't have Bryson's snarky sense of humor, but he is amusing just the same. We meet many different types of characters travelling around these 2 islands, and learn about many of the sites/tourist attractions on offer. An enjoyable read, and a worthy trip around New Zealand. MaryZee

A Dangerous Vine by Barbara Ewing
This book was lush and passionate. Maggie (I love her Maori name, "Makareti") came to life for me. It was very touching the way she tentatively considered choosing education over marriage and motherhood at only 18 years old. Megi53

The Colour by Rose Tremain was picked by two BookCrossers
The Colour took a while to kick off and hold my interest but I found that it is one of those books that got better towards the end. The plot was unpredictable and the setting and ideas Tremain wrote of are unusual enough to make this a book worth persevering with. da-wildchildz

An immensely satisfying read! The pace of the story is beautifully controlled, rising in a gripping crescendo as the protagonists struggle not so much to master the great world as to create their own smaller world within it. miketroll

Monday's Warriors by Maurice Shadbolt
A different perspective on the Maori Wars: a novelised life of an American member of the British army who deserted and joined the Maori side. Different and interesting. HINERANGI
