So much more than a book review weblog, the New York Review of Books blog is a site with an enviably familiar list of contributors.
Writers such as Nicholas D. Kristof, Colm Tóibín, Michael Massing, Jonathan Freedland, Ian Buruma and others get to delve further into books, the arts and newsmaking issues like the Lisbon Treaty, the environment and (mostly) American politics. While not necessarily always light reading, the NYRblog provokes thought and the sheer amount of opinion is enough to dazzle many at a cocktail party.
One of our favourite recent posts is from a little over a month ago - Charles Rosen wrote about the pleasures of browsing books in a brick-and-mortar environment. We may have a vested interest for saying so, but we wholeheartedly agree that the physical book continues to hold great allure, both from a tactile and aesthetic point of view!
