This week Meet At The Gate is commemorating the fall of the Berlin Wall, and while there are many worthy sites we could highlight, The Berlin Wall is a great interactive website that tells the story of the wall — from the planning pahse during the initial war years till its destruction in 1989.

Some of the site is in German, but the pertinent information about the Wall and its place in history is helpfully translated into English. For example, did you know that there were 5,000 attempts to escape (presumably from the East to the West) and 239 deaths?

For the beginning European history buff, this site is invaluable. It lays out the chronological history in an easily-digestible timeline that also provides talking points if anyone should be keen on doing more research into our very recent history with the Cold War.

If you've got a website or podcast you'd like to submit for Site of the Week consideration, send us an email (make sure the recipient is Website enquiries).
