When we talk about things over the pond, we're usually referring to the United States, but there is a online literary community thriving across the border in the North. Quill & Quire represents one of the best - from the International Festival of Authors (this year's had a Scottish theme and our very own Margaret Elphinstone was at the McArthur & Company party) to LOLerature and Critterati, we find out what's capturing the Canadian literati's imagination.

Amidst the talk and unhappiness at at prime minister Stephen Harper's cuts in funding for the arts in Canada, sites like Quill & Quire show that there is a large community engaged in discussion and creativity to support their cultural brethren.

Long may they prosper.
