We’re all really excited about Irregular, our somewhat-quarterly club night featuring the ‘funnest’ writers, poets and musicians who’ve come all the way to Edinburgh to party. Come to The Voodoo Rooms on 18 November for a night of live music, readings and general merriment (and tequila, lots of tequila)!
Two weeks of fillums from across the channel at the French Film Festival UK 2009. J’ai tellement hâte de voir les films de Jacques Tati – about whom Anthony Lane wrote, ‘With him, French neorealism was born. Norah
My November excitement is two gigs – Grizzly Bear, a Brooklyn-based indie band and Yo La Tengo, a New Jersey-based alt-rock band. Steph
I'm looking forward to Grant Heslov's film adaptation of Jon Ronson's book, The Men Who Stare at Goats. Featuring an all-star cast, including Ewan McGregor, George Clooney, Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges, the film investigates the U.S. Army's exploration of New Age concepts and the potential applications of the paranormal. Hilarious and creepy. RJI
David Eagleman will be talking with Richard Holloway and Philip Pullman in Edinburgh (11 November) and London (12 November, sold out) respectively about Sum and I’m really looking forward to both. I’m also excited about The Men Who Stare at Goats. Angela
I’m looking forward to fighting off hordes of hormonal teenage girls in order to see New Moon. Sad. But true. Krystelle
I'm looking forward to the new Coen Brothers film, A Serious Man. I was disappointed by Burn After Reading but all the buzz seems to suggest that this latest film sees them return to form. Scribbles
I‘m off to the Lyceum Theatre performance of James Hogg’s Confessions of a Justified Sinner (introduction, afterword) this weekend – the book was magnificent – and I’ll also be seeing the Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers at The Queen’s Hall this month. At the end of the month I get to relive my university days by going to The Living End concert in Glasgow. Spex
On the 20th November Scottish Opera are running a free behind-the-scenes look at their performance of Rossini’s The Italian Girl in Algiers. The orchestra, singers and crew will all be involved, and I’m looking forward to finding out a bit more about what goes on backstage while getting a taster of a composer whose work I otherwise know very little about. Anna
And Dan would like to say:
Alice in Chains on Jools Holland!
Them Crooked Vultures’ debut album!
Seeing Life Is A Dream with Dominic West!
