With the stated goals of developing emerging writers and gaining a wider audience for lesser-known writers of literature, what's not to like about the Emerging Writers Network?

Site owner Dan Wickett not only highlights emerging and established authors deserving of more attention - he writes about literary journals that promote them, too. It's great to see news of writers winning prizes not of the Nobel or Booker variety, because it isn't the big presses getting coverage on the EWN, small and independent presses get a big look in, and we're all about small and independent presses making a splash.

As a publisher known for launching the careers of debut authors or authors who deserved to 'break out' (Steven Hall and Scarlett Thomas, to name just two), sites like EWN are invaluable for pointing out new talent. As publishing becomes more and more democratic, it comes down to independent publishing and virtual curators like EWN to show readers which new writers are worth it.
