We were contacted on Twitter by George Cameron Grant, a playwright and designer, about his one-act play Foreclosure. It was one of 40 plays that were shortlisted to be performed at the 2009 Samuel French Off Off Broadway Play Festival in Manhattan, New York. He has made this play available, royalty-free, for theatre groups to perform all over the world and he explained the thinking behind his decision:
We just had a wonderful presentation of it at Playwrights Horizons mainstage, as part of the 2009 Samuel French Off Off Broadway Play Festival. I was stunned by the reaction to the play during its presentation, and deeply moved by the intimate personal reactions, revelations, and gratitude that came our way later that night, and since. I can't speak for your part of the world (where I must make a long overdue visit), but here the housing situation is devastating, so I felt that it was more important to get Foreclosure in front of as many folks as possible, and that money should NOT be an obstacle to that goal.
You can request a copy of Foreclosure to be sent to you if you send George some basic information so he can keep track of where it's being performed. At no time will money change hands - quite a gift in these cash-strapped times.
