Starting this weekend, the
World eBook Fair will be giving one month's free access to over two million (yes,
two million) eBooks, from out-of-copyright classics to contemporary literature and even 'military science fiction' (whatever that means - Starship Troopers?). I've browsed the collections that will be available; I think what's on offer definitely outstrips the local library.
While you're not going to get the latest Dan Brown or celebrity memoir in the collections provided generously by organisations around the world (classic Japanese and Chinese literature, as well as Islamic and Hindu texts are all covered here), this is your chance to get your hands on reference texts and information you've had on your reading lists for aeons.
And if you don't get round to checking out this extensive collection over the next few weeks (free access ends 4 August), an annual membership to the library only costs $8.95, a bargain at twice the price.
