The city becomes all glitz and glamour in June during the Edinburgh International Film Festival. Running from 17 - 28 June, there are scores of excellent films, documentaries and music (in the form of All Tomorrow's Parties) to be enjoyed. Here are some of the films that Canongaters in Edinburgh are excited about:
As well as the classics of the future, EIFF also gives you a chance to catch up on the ones you might have missed with its free outdoor screenings of classic films - Film Festival Under the Stars.
This year I’m particularly looking forward to Friday’s line-up of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and You Only Live Twice – both films that I know I saw in my youth but which have sadly blended into the general respective Indiana Jones and James Bond melting pots in my brain. What a great excuse to refresh myself. Sian
I'm looking forward to Pippa Lee (for obvious reasons) but also have tickets for Rudo & Cursi, featuring the very handsome stars of Y Tu Mama Tambien as aspiring footballers, and I'm taking my daughter to the animated fairytale The Secret of Kells. Catriona
I was intrigued by the comments on Antichrist when it debuted at Cannes, so I'm keen to check it out for myself. I'm also pretty desperate to see Shallow Grave on the big screen! Andrea
I'm particularly looking forward to Away We Go which makes its international debut at the Opening Gala. Directed by Sam Mendes (Revolutionary Road, American Beauty, Jarhead) and written by Dave Eggers and Vendela Vida, this funny and heartfelt film follows the journey of an expectant couple as they travel the U.S. in search of the perfect place to raise their family. I’m excited to check out a Roger Corman film (or two). There seems to be a big focus on him at this year’s EIFF! His Poe adaptations, especially The Masque of the Red Death, look eerie and beautiful. Stephanie
