Let's not be disingenuous - online book review sites and independent publishers have a very special relationship. We give them what they want (lots of lovely literary fiction and non-fiction to read) and they give us what we want (reviews, hopefully good, and therefore, online publicity). But we don't want just any site reviewing our books! The quality of the review (and its location) is almost as important as the book itself, in our eyes.
We had our curiosity piqued when Bookgeeks first launched in early 2008. The quality of the reviews was consistently high, so we added them to our RSS reader and got in touch with the site owner to send some review copies over, and what a ride we've been on ever since!
Then a relatively small book reviewing outfit, it has now grown to include a solid panel of reviewers and interviewers, as well as running regular author panels and book giveaways. They were part of an online book tour for Chris Killen, whose debut novel The Bird Room took the Internet by storm - Bookgeeks launched their book giveaway-cum-online book discussion group with it!
It's this kind of forward-thinking (as well as quality content) that's helped to raise Bookgeeks' profile among the literary blognoscenti so quickly. We can't help but think that Bookgeeks can only get better, and we'll be there rooting them on all the way.
