It would be entirely remiss if Meet At The Gate didn't feature the Literary Saloon, one of the web's top literary weblogs. Celebrating its tenth year online, its parent site the Complete Review can truly be classified as one of the oldies but goodies.
Site owner Michael Orthofer picks the literary news of the day that he deems most interesting, and given the reach and influence of the Literary Saloon, it becomes interesting to the rest of the literary blogging world, too.
This is not a site that only talks about the latest bestseller or Richard & Judy pick - his latest post today is about Arabic literature, and he also posts interesting stuff about literature in India. But our favourite post of recent days has definitely got to be the one about author photos, where he says:
Indeed, on the whole, I'd be glad to be spared the dust jacket photo, bio-blurb, and all the rest -- so don't worry about updating that blog for my sake. More important than ever ? For me that would still be the damn book .....
