Here is a link to this brilliant piece of footage which shows Barack Obama telling a wonderful story about going to Greenwood, South Carolina and meeting this little old lady who inspired him to tell this story the night before Tuesday night’s election.  It’s funny and moving and inspiring in equal measure.

As Barack says, “Here’s my point Virginia.  That’s how it started.
It shows you what one voice can do.
One voice can change a room.
And if the voice can change a room it can change a city.
And if it can change a city it can change a state.
And it can change a state it can change a nation.
And if it can change a nation it can change a world.
VIRGINIA!  Your voice can change the world tomorrow.”

And what a voice Barack has

Enjoy

It's incredible to hear the spellbinding oratory and simple but effective storytelling techniques that Obama deploys eloquently and powerfully.
I've always found storytelling - done well - connects in such a brain tingling way.
The kind of hope his life story and oratory inspires can be found closer to home too. Just across the road of Canongate some pretty cool tellers can be heard at the Scottish Storytellng centre and also in other parts of the UK. I just posted a piece about a huge prize for storytelling and I guess the biggest prize is to inspire and be remembered with a story told out loud or in a well made book.

Thanks for the link Jamie - I'm ready to Go!

I agree that it is inevitable that he will fall short of some people's unrealistic expectations.

But Obama also strikes me as patient and wise and a man who will stand by his word and do everything that he can to alter things for the better. And he has the clearest mandate for change that any US president has had for decades which will only help him in his efforts.

But he needs all the help he can get and he will get this from a lot of people including the excellent team of advisors that he has surrounded himself with. It's worth checking out Jonathan Raban's piece that was in the Guardian on Saturday. I thought it was very good esp in comparing the cronies Bush surrounded himself with and who Obama has.

Thank god there at least exists the possibility of positive change. And I would not underestimate Obama's ability to carry people with him. I'm certain he will change the direction of the super tanker!!

Amazingly powerful stuff !!

The difficulty is that the media are building up expectations way too high. 'It takes a long time to turn a supertanker around'.
