I just want to share with you a fantastic website that was started to promote small-time artists from around southern California, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Fecalface however, despite its name, has grown into so much more. It is now regarded as one of the best websites for spotting new talent on the art scene globally and often features interviews from European artists as well.

Success has come slowly to the emerging art scene in Cali, a gallery scene that grew from the streets long before the overhyped popularity of Banksy, Blek Le Rat and other copycat stencilists. Barry McGee, Chris Johanson and their contemporaries can now enjoy seeing their work change hands for large sums of money internationally, despite (or perhaps because of) their humble beginnings.

There are a number of reasons why great art often germinates in lower economic communities, the most prominent being the price attributed to art that does not excite the established institutionalised critics - embarrissingly low.

More importantly those artists working their way up from the bottom of the heap have nothing to loose, and so can afford to take the chances that great creativity requires, allowing them to uphold more personal integrity and exude honesty through thier work. Some of this talent can be seen exhibited on Fecalface, which has nobly maintained a workable equilibrium between showing art from more established names whilst also championing those underdogs of the artistic community.

Enjoy.
