Touted as a community for aspiring / undiscovered writers and poets, One Night Stanzas is owned and operated by Claire Askew, an Edinburgh-based writer and poet. One Night Stanzas is, in television parlance, a spin-off of Read This Magazine, also edited by this very talented and diligent young lady.
Let's start with what this site isn't. It isn't another poetry site that publishes new poets so it's all poetry, all the time. One Night Stanzas, by virtue of its categories alone, is a resource for those of writerly persuasions - whether it's tips to escape writer's block, or more personal thoughts and diversions - the Things I Love Thursday or procrastination station categories, for example - that follow a particular meme (which, in itself, is a fantastic way to beat writer's block).
As a blog, One Night Stanzas is fairly new to the scene, and isn't anything groundbreaking in terms of its format (blogs are so 2004, according to Wired). What makes the site special is Claire's voice - for all the millions of blogs on the Internet, you can't beat a site that is about serving a niche community, rather than writing for advertising revenue. And her service is pretty bloody good.
