Back in the day when we said 'WWW' and people replied 'What?', layouts were basic and Ajax-based sites were still a twinkle in a programmer's eye. This Space exemplifies the simple stylings of a Web 1.0 site - no fuss, just pure information laid out chronologically without any pretensions of cutting-edge (or too-hip 'minimalist') design.
Nothing gets in the way of the content on This Space. And the content is eloquent and varied.
We like that This Space doesn't just review books - author Stephen Mitchelmore frequently posts his opinions and reports on the news in the literary world. Of particular interest (and slight amusement) is his post on litblogs and critblogs, and we would never have known to be concerned when a reviewer lost his job for quoting an author - whose book made serious allegations against Big Business - had This Space not informed us.
And Stephen is obviously a man of extremely good taste, for he wrote a wonderful review of Night Work, which we spotted some time ago. Ahem.
