For our inaugural, informal, link lovin' site of the week post, we would like to draw your attention to the great bibliophile site that is Vulpes Libris.
Most book review weblogs, group or otherwise, are pretty good because they display their passion for books and reading, and Vulpes Libris really stands out to us for one reason: their sidebar. Weblogs are generally quite casual and free-flowing journals of personal and/or professional entries, so it is incredibly refreshing to find a weblog that prominently notifies the reader what they can expect to read this week.
It's also extra brilliant because it brings themes to light, outside of the standard blogging 'tags' and 'categories' organisation. We really enjoyed their Short Story Week, which featured a pretty strong discussion of Miranda July's No One Belongs Here More Than You (a Canongate author, of course), and an opinion piece by one of the most passionate evangelists for the short story, Tania Hershman.
The only quibble I have with Vulpes Libris is related to how the site is designed - theme weeks could be more easily found, especially by casual visitor. Only a couple of them are linked to in the Special Features tab, and it would be so much easier to read the reviews and articles on each theme if they were all linked in one place.
Other than that, it's an excellent site and I encourage everyone who likes books to visit.
The Gatekeeper's note: Since we wrote this post, Vulpes Libris has posted an excellent review of The Joker in the Batman universe, and we can't fit a relevant mention of it within this piece. But it's so marvellous we must link to it regardless.
If you've got a website or podcast you'd like to submit for Site of the Week consideration, send us an email (make sure the recipient is Website enquiries).
